cockapoo6.gifGrooming should be adopted as a habit for both you and your Cockapoo. Regular grooming is not only for aesthetics purposes (although it is great to see your beloved dog looking way nicer after grooming), it is also a vital aspect in keeping your Cockapoo healthy and comfortable.

Coat

Combing its hair is an important step in keeping your Cockapoo's coat tangle-free. However, many people make the mistake of combing only the top layer, neglecting to comb the under layer properly. The next mistake Cockapoo owners make is to neglect combing its hair before bathing it. Both mistakes can cause the coat to be heavily tangled, sometimes so tangled that it's only solvable by shaving it clean to grow a new coat.

Regarding visits to professional animal hairstylists, contrary to what some owners think, there is no "standard" hair style that a Cockapoo should have. It all depends on you and your dog's needs. Say for example, you find that it'll be more comfortable for your dog to have this haircut when it's at work, then go for it.

Ears

Proper ear care is extremely important in preventing ear infections for your Cockapoo. Keeping your dog's ear canal dry is a common first step in preventing impurities from entering its ears and causing an infection. Other than cleaning its ears using a specialized ear cleansers, Cockapoo owners may also cut away any hairs found to be growing inside its ears. Doing so can help reduce the accumulation of ear wax in your dog's ears.

Teeth

Regular brushing of your Cockapoo's teeth is vital in keeping nasty toothaches at bay. Good maintenance of its teeth also helps your dog retain its ability to consume food normally. As such, you should brush its teeth regularly, preferably once a day. There is also the option of taking it to a professional teeth cleaner to do a thorough, serious clean up if you feel that regular brushing at home is still inadequate. Do take note to not use human toothpaste as it may contain ingredients that are detrimental to your Cockapoo's health.

Of course, you can always leave everything to a professional groomer. However, grooming your dog yourself is a great opportunity to have some fun time between you and your friend. Plus, it is always good to be able to save on some precious dollars while giving the same comfort your Cockapoo needs.
